Important Lithium Battery Notice
Policy Update #2
Dear Valued Customers,
As an update to our previously published advisory on March 11, 2025 with changes to deadlines/requirements highlighted below. This replaces the previously published advisory.
Ensuring cargo safety is our top priority. Effective immediately, all shipments containing lithium batteries, whether declared as dangerous goods (DG) or non-DG, will require all complete documentation to be submitted by the below:
Insufficient, incomplete, or missing documentation at the time of deadline will cause the booking to be rolled, and any additional charges will be applied to the account of the shipper.
Documentation Deadline:
Canadian East Coast, US East Coast, and US Gulf Coast ports: 48 hours prior to port cutoff
Canadian West Coast and US West Coast ports : 24 hours prior to port cutoff
Documentation includes:
- Safety data sheet (SDS)
- UN 38.3 Test Report (as per the United Nations Manual of Tests and Criteria)
- Dangerous goods declaration (DGD), if applicable
- Letter of Indemnity (LOI), if requested by partners
- Any other documentation as necessary
Lithium batteries, DG and non-DG, are subject to specific declaration and stowage requirements. Incorrect or misaligned shipping instructions and declared information will result in penalties.
